5 Easy Ways to Decorate This Holiday Season

Holiday decorations can add a beautiful touch and bring much-needed seasonal beauty to your home this holiday season. Decorating our homes is a big part of the holidays for many of us every year, but it may feel especially important during this pandemic holiday.

Make Unique Holiday Crafts

Instead of spending lots of money on generic, store-bought decorations, this year, try creating something unique and beautiful using nothing but nature, a few household items, and maybe a little hot glue or wire. Making use of the abundant and beautiful nature surrounding us here in the UP is a great way to brighten up your home this season and bring the festivities to you.

Decorating With Nature

A little creativity can go a long way when decorating, and a handful of fresh spruce tips, cranberries, and dried orange slices can go almost as far. Here is a shortlist of natural decoration ideas to brighten up your living space:

  1. Drop a couple of spruce tips or evergreen sprigs into a mason jar or other glass containers for a simple but lovely decoration that will look nice anywhere in your home.

  1. Potted Norfolk Pines make a great focal point when decorated with sparkly ornaments, dried orange slices, or cranberries.

  1. Surround your glowing candles or candle lanterns with an arrangement of fresh greenery and pinecones for an easy and classic Christmas look.

  1. If you’re feeling extra crafty, make a charming winter scene inside a glass bowl. Find a large glass bowl or vase, add a little fake snow and props such as spruce tips, pinecones, and perhaps an artificial bird or two.

  1. Decorate your porch or entry with holiday planter boxes. If you don’t have any planter boxes, a couple of silver or wooden buckets will do the trick. Fill the boxes partway with sand, then use the sand to anchor a simple arrangement of cut evergreen and young birch branches. For a finishing touch, tie a red or green ribbon around the planter boxes, or use a little glue to adhere a large cloth bow.
