Mason jars have been commonly sought after by artists, as making different crafts with them is simple and leads to memorable results. Mason jars are ideal for holding flowers, as they’re sturdier than other options and can still be watered at regular intervals. However, if you’re looking to create something unique, our team at Flower Works has listed a few of our favorite crafts below.
DIY Herb Gardens
From mint to parsley, herbs can improve the foods we eat and can even be used as medicine. You might not have considered this at first, but mason jars are perfect for creating your own do-it-yourself herb gardens. Simply pour potting soil into the jar about halfway up, then add a pinch of your herb of choice. Then, fill the rest of your jar with soil before adding water. Place your jar in the sunlight and watch your herbs grow.
Mason jars are known for their durability, so you don’t have to be concerned with the plants damaging the jar. In fact, if you want to reuse your jar for another herb, you can easily do so.
Homemade Sconces
Sconces are wall fixtures that usually hold lights, but you can create your own wall sconce with mason jars and the flowers of choice. You can use a leather strap to hold the jar onto a piece of reclaimed wood, then attach the fixture to a wall. Add whatever flowers you’d like into the jar, and you’ll have your own homemade decoration. Of course, you can use whatever materials you prefer, so long as the jar is in a sturdy position and full of flowers you love.
DIY Vases
Vases can be expensive, and it can be tough to find the right vase for displaying flowers at home. If your vase stands out from your home’s decor, you may constantly notice it and wonder how to fix it. One solution is to use mason jars as substitute vases.
If you received a flower bouquet from a friend or loved one, you can place the bouquet into a mason jar and fill it with water. If you don’t like how this looks visually, you can also paint the jar however you’d like. For instance, if your home’s interior is white and gray, you may want to paint the outside of the jar gray to match. If your decor changes, you can simply repaint the jar as an inexpensive solution. Some individuals have even used metallic spray paint to enhance the aesthetic further, and this is a technique you may like, as well.

This season is all about dark and moody hues that give a spooky look to floral arrangements. Colors such as purple, maroon, black, or dark blue hues give a different twist to a dark and moody arrangement. You can then add other pops of color, such as different shades of red, oranges, and even yellows.

With the coming of the fall season comes a plethora of colors, such as golden yellow, maroon, crimson, bright orange, and russet brown. These colors can be reflected in the changing leaves, pumpkins, gourds, and florals of the season. Even if you are not a florist, you can create beautiful centerpieces to use as decorations for your harvest festival celebrations.
